Brendan Krummel was the first of Ken Judge's East Fremantle projects. Krummel was very unfortunate with injuries during his time with West Coast and Fremantle, but Judge saw something in him and drafted Brendan with our first pick (pick 5) in the 1995 draft.

Krummel was used mainly in defence during his first season (1996) with the Hawks. He wasn't overly tall, but his upper body strength was excellent for a man of his stature. Krummel held his own, and cemented a place in the side. In 1997 Krummel was thrown forward with good effect. He kicked five goals in a half against the Crows to almost snatch a comeback victory at Waverley Park. From that day on he was used mainly as a third or fourth option in attack.

Unfortunately for Krummel, injuries started to catch up with him once again. His final two years with the Hawks were marred by leg injuries. In the end his only option was to retire midway through season 2000. Krummel was a good servant of the club, but he never really justified Ken Judge’s decision to draft him so high.
