A sharpshooting half forward flanker, Judge had an uncanny eye for goal. He kicked 158 goals in 72 games for the Hawks, an average of 2.2 per game, which ranks him tenth on the all-time list of goals-per-game figures for Hawthorn players who played more than 50 games.

After coming over from East Fremantle, he had a fine first season, culminating in a premiership as he came off the bench to replace the stricken Gary Buckenara in the massive win over Essendon.

Judge was a mainstay in the side for the next two years, booting a sensational 63 goals in 1984. However, he was a victim of the side's restructure after the 1985 season, struggling to break into the senior line-up.

He left Hawthorn at the end of the 1986 season, and had a relatively unsuccessful stint in Brisbane thereafter. In 1996 he became the coach of the Hawthorn Football Club, and moved on to take the helm at the West Coast Eagles in 2000.
