Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett hopes veteran ruckman Peter "Spida" Everitt will follow Shane Crawford's lead and settle for a one-year deal with the Hawks.
Kennett said yesterday Crawford's decision to agree to a new 12-month deal was common sense.
Everitt is pushing for a two-year agreement with the Hawks after a three-year offer from Sydney at the end of last season that failed to eventuate.
Kennett last night made it clear the Hawks would not entertain a two-year deal for Everitt, who turns 32 next Friday.
"It would be inappropriate for us to go down that path," Kennett said.
